Today, I want to talk to you about Off the Sidelines and the work we’re doing to elect strong, progressive women to Congress. I’m also going to ask you to make a contribution to fuel our efforts. [[link removed]] But first, let me explain why your support is absolutely vital.
I founded Off the Sidelines nine years ago because I believed that if more women had a seat at the decision-making table, the outcomes for all Americans would be better. That if women made up 50% of Congress, we wouldn’t still be debating a woman’s right to reproductive health care, paid family leave, or affordable child care.
We have the opportunity this year to make meaningful progress when it comes to achieving parity in Congress. Democratic women like Amy McGrath and Barbara Bollier are leading the charge to take back the Senate—and phenomenal candidates like Desiree Tims, Wendy Davis and Gina Ortiz Jones are going to expand our House majority.
And that’s where Off the Sidelines comes in: We’re providing game-changing woman candidates with the financial support they need to run for office—and win. I never would have been elected without the networks of women and grassroots donors who supported me throughout my first campaign. I’m proud that Off the Sidelines can be there for these women when it matters most.
We have a big fundraising deadline coming up at the end of this month, and still need to raise another $15,000 to make budget. Hitting this goal (or exceeding it!) means we can double down on our support for some of the most exciting candidates of the cycle and expand our footprint to support even more campaigns. Falling short means scaling back our efforts at a moment when our support could make a huge impact.
