In Ukraine, healthcare is under attack.
There have been 11 attacks that have injured civilians and taken innocent lives this year alone. Over 2,700 hospitals have been attacked since the full-scale invasion began. A UNFPA maternity hospital is among those impacted by the attacks.
Childbirth doesn’t stop in times of conflict. That is why UNFPA is building underground maternity wards so mothers on the frontlines can give birth safely with the medical care they deserve.
No child should have to take their first breaths in a bunker, and no mother should have to worry if their maternity hospital will face attacks or the power will go out.
Will you make a gift today to help rebuild maternity wards, send generators to keep hospitals functioning amid blackouts, and deliver lifesaving medical supplies so expecting mothers in conflict zones like Ukraine can deliver safely, no matter what? [[link removed]?]

Iryna , a Medical Director and obstetrician-gynecologist, shared more about how frontline hospitals in Ukraine are forced to adapt amongst constant attacks:
“Having a maternity unit specially equipped in a basement shelter became the number one priority. We have a project that includes a delivery room, an operating room, a neonatal intensive care unit, an intensive care unit for women, and a ward for pregnant women.”
That’s the reality of giving birth in Kharkiv, a city just 12 miles from the frontlines, where a UNFPA maternity hospital was damaged.
During winter conditions, attacks further heighten risks for mothers and newborns. Areas close to combat zones also have the highest rates of preterm births and stillbirths in the country.
We must rebuild safe hospitals — for the sake of women, girls, mothers, and their newborns.
UNFPA has been on the ground in Ukraine since the beginning of the war to ensure that lifesaving services for women and girls are integrated into emergency responses, like underground maternity wards. Many first-time donors make a gift of $50 or more. Please, rush a lifesaving contribution of $50 or more to keep childbirth safe for mothers in Ukraine and beyond: [[link removed]]
