Congress is fast-tracking voter suppression by planning a vote this week on the anti-voter SAVE America Act. This is one of three similar bills being pushed by Republicans that would deny tens of millions of Americans their right to vote.

These pieces of legislation do anything but make elections great again. They’ll result in tens of millions of eligible voters being denied the right to register to vote, or update their voter registration.

These SAVE Act bills require a passport, birth certificate, or other citizenship documents just to register to vote in federal elections and would disrupt widely used registration methods such as online voter registration, registration drives, and registration by mail, which have for years helped ensure our voter rolls are accurate. Rather than protecting election integrity, they would make it harder for eligible voters to participate and for election officials to maintain accurate voting rolls.

Under this legislation, tens of millions of Republican, Democratic, and independent voters could lose out on having their voices heard at the polls, including the 140 million Americans who don’t have a passport and the 8 in 10 married women who changed their surname and don’t have a birth certificate that matches their current name.¹

This is a modern day poll tax, plain and simple.

Before tomorrow’s expected vote in the House, send a direct message to your members of Congress and demand they reject the SAVE Act voter suppression bills.

We’re watching an administration test how far it can go in attempting to control our elections and silence our voices, including pressuring states to hand over sensitive voter data. In a letter to Minnesota Governor Walz just hours after Alex Pretti was killed, Attorney General Pam Bondi even intimated decisions about ICE deployment could hinge on the state turning over voter rolls and cooperating with federal demands.

None of this is about safeguarding elections. It’s about extremist lawmakers trying to ensure they stay in office by limiting who can vote. This is right out of the authoritarian playbook.

Your Congresspeople need to hear from you. Send a message demanding they reject these voter suppression bills.
