John,

When elected officials implement harmful policies, they often move forward without taking the time to solicit feedback from their constituents or they ignore countless phone calls and emails asking them to choose a different path. But with the new anti-trans, anti-health rules being considered by the Department of Health and Human Services, we have a real chance to make our voices heard – and we need everyone who supports dignity for transgender young people and their families to speak out in this moment to show just how damaging these policies could be.

Our partners pulled together a portal where you can easily submit your comment against these proposed HHS rules and show up for trans youth. It takes less than 60 seconds to submit a comment – just be mindful about sharing any identifying information you don't want to have listed publicly.

As a reminder, HHS proposed rules around gender-affirming care in December of 2025: One proposes that hospitals that participate in federal insurance programs like Medicaid and Medicare should not be able to provide gender-affirming care for trans people under 18. Another says that families insured by Medicaid, Medicare, or CHIP cannot use their insurance to cover gender-affirming care. These are proposed rules – the first step in a process where the public will be able to comment and oppose the rules. This comment period is for 60 days – and it could take weeks or months after that to finalize the rulings. If they're finalized, it is likely that they'll be challenged in court.

The fight for transgender freedom will not start or end with these rules, but this is an important moment to speak out and show our government we won't stand for this egregious overreach into trans youth healthcare. Take one minute and submit your public comment today before the February 17th deadline.

We're so sorry this is happening, and the federal government is focused on targeting the care of trans youth instead of working to expand healthcare access for all of us. As always we will get through this moment together, and our Trans Youth Emergency Project will continue to support families every step of the way as they travel for life-saving care.

Thank you for being on our team and making all this work possible,

Allison Scott
