WCV's Evergreen Future campaign No images? Click here John, The stakes in 2020 could not be higher. Our elected officials will be making decisions about how we move forward during the coronavirus crisis, and these decisions will determine the future for our economy, our health, and our environment. Right now, we need candidates who are ready to build a healthier and more resilient Washington. The 2020 election will be hugely important for Washington state: We have a chance to strengthen environmental majorities in our Senate and House and at all levels of state government. Candidates must be ready to invest in taking climate action that builds an equitable and just clean energy future. That’s why we launched Evergreen Future, a bold and actionable platform to move Washington forward. A key pillar to the Evergreen Future platform is Environmental Justice and Public Health. Too many Washington communities face high levels of pollution, lack economic opportunity, and are overlooked in decisions that affect their lives. Leaders must craft solutions to deliver outcomes people need. Decision-making systems must also center those most at risk of harm, and the state must ensure easy access to voting so that people can elect leaders of their choice to advance the solutions communities need:
The candidates we elect now will play a critical role in deciding the fate of communities across Washington at one of the most consequential times in our state’s history. We have an opportunity to elect leaders who will invest in public health, protect frontline workers, and tackle our biggest environmental challenges. We need leaders who understand that the system of white supremacy that permeates our culture allowing poor, Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to be more polluted, is the same system that ignores racial injustice and state violence. Elected officials need to understand that we can and must focus on solving both and that the solutions are tied together. Thanks for all you do, Darcy Nonemacher |
