Americans United and its allies sue over Trump administration’s biased ‘Religious Liberty Commission’. Help us hold this administration accountable: [link removed]
Dear Friend,
Americans United and our allies just filed a federal lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s so-called ‘Religious Liberty Commission’: [link removed]
This commission has nothing to do with protecting religious freedom. Instead, this is about government favoritism. The commission is stacked with members who promote the idea that the United States should be governed by a narrow set of religious beliefs, while excluding the voices of many religious minorities and nonreligious Americans.
Since our country’s founding, religious liberty and pluralism have been central to who we are as a nation. These values are now under accelerated attack. This commission is advancing a culture of Christian Nationalism that divides and isolates people across the country. That is un-American and against the law.
The administration’s agenda has been escalating. Just last week, Trump used the National Prayer Breakfast to spread disinformation about the Johnson Amendment and promote Christian Nationalist rhetoric. This commission’s mandate is to turn that ideology into government policy.
We’re suing. Americans United and our allies are asking the court to declare this commission unlawful and require the release of documents that should already be public. Religious freedom only for some is religious freedom for none. With your support, we will hold this administration accountable.

That’s not all we’re fighting. Americans United has been holding the line against Christian Nationalism in this administration and across the country:
— Last week, we filed our third lawsuit ([link removed]) challenging the administration’s dangerous “Anti-Christian Bias” executive order for violating federal law by refusing to fulfill our public-records requests.
— In Tennessee, we were granted ([link removed]) permission to intervene in a case to stop an unconstitutional religious public charter school from opening.
— Yesterday, we also secured a victory ([link removed]) after the Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board rejected Ben Gamla Jewish Charter School’s application to form the nation’s first religious public charter school.
This is what we do. We go to court. We fight back. We protect the constitutional promise of church-state separation that safeguards religious freedom for everyone. We uphold the laws that are meant to ensure inclusive and transparent government. But we can’t do this critical work without your support: [link removed]
Our country’s religious freedom and diversity is our strength. Your commitment to helping us protect the separation of church and state is what makes true religious freedom possible, and we’ll never stop fighting for it.
