Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
SAFEGUARDING AMERICAN FARMLAND
Last week, during an Agriculture Appropriations Committee hearing with USDA Inspector General John Walk, we discussed protecting America’s farmland and food supply. We covered concerns about foreign ownership of U.S. farmland, cyber threats to agriculture, and making sure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly as USDA manages large federal programs. Safeguarding our food system matters, and strong oversight is key to getting it right. Watch my remarks here.
REOPENING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Congress reached a bipartisan agreement to reopen the federal government after a brief partial shutdown caused by disagreements over Homeland Security funding. The deal restored full-year funding for most agencies and provides temporary funding for the Department of Homeland Security while negotiations continue.
This agreement keeps essential services running, protects federal employee paychecks, and ensures the government can respond to emergencies and disasters. Government shutdowns are a failure of Congress to do its job, and I’m glad lawmakers came together to re-open the government and refocus on delivering results for the American people.
STRENGTHENING U.S. LEADERSHIP IN SPACE

In the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, we also advanced the NASA Reauthorization Act, a key step in keeping America competitive in space. The bill backs human spaceflight, expands partnerships with private space companies, and invests in the technology that will power future missions. This work matters to our state. Florida is central to launches, research, and thousands of high-skill jobs tied to the space economy. The measure now heads to the House floor for consideration.
