Join us at IWAC later this month

We are pleased to be supporting SAAF grantee partners from Kenya, Mexico, Moldova and Thailand to attend the The International Congress on Women's Health and Unsafe Abortion (IWAC) ([link removed]) in Bangkok later this month. They will share insights from their work in a SAAF panel session entitled 'When the state fails us: How feminist activists are finding their own solutions to ensure safe abortion care for all."

Laura H from the SAAF team will also be giving a presentation on how SAAF collects data and measures impact when it comes to abortion care. If you are attending the conference we hope you will join us for these sessions!

Submit your abstracts for ARJC by the end of February!

SAAF is delighted to be a sponsor for the upcoming 'Abortion and Reproductive Justice Conference (ARJC)' ([link removed]) hosted by long-term SAAF grantee partner TICAH and taking place in June this year.

Registration is now open, with an early-bird discount (and sliding scale) for those registering before 5th March. Scholarships for those in the Global South are also available, with priority being given to people living with disabilities, young people, sex workers and gender-diverse individuals.

Those interested in submitting abstracts should do so before 28th February - all the information is available on the ARJC website here ([link removed]) . Hope to see you there!

"Socorristas seeks to reaffirm the autonomy of people having abortions."

SAAF has been supporting the work of the Argentinian feminist network Socorristas En Red since 2020. Laura G from the SAAF team was able to visit them at the end of last year to join community meetings centered around abortion access. She has shared her impressions of Socorristas' work, along with quotes and observations from their dedicated volunteers in this blogpost:

SAAF grantee partner spotlight: Women's Resource Center

The Women's Resource Center (WRC) is a feminist organisation based in Yerevan, Armenia. Though abortion is legally permitted in the country, it remains a highly stigmatised and politicised topic, and provider refusal is increasingly a barrier to access.

Since first receiving SAAF funding in 2025, WRC has already completed a research report on abortion legislation and access in Armenia, which included responses from a survey of 183 women from diverse backgrounds. This analysis allows them to document and interrogate the blockages to abortion access in their advocacy work and build evidence for the need for improved care.

As a practical measure to improve care, WRC will engage women's rights organisations to provide their own rights-based, accurate counselling and community outreach on abortion, with a focus on marginalised groups. They will also establish a nationwide network of community-based OB-GYNs to actively champion accessible abortion services across the country.

SAAF is hosted by IPPF. If you wish to report anything which concerns you about our work, or the work of our grantee partners (such as abuse, fraud, malpractice) please consider using the confidential external incident reporting service IPPF SafeReport ([link removed]) .
