A concerted effort by neighborhood groups and city government has improved pedestrian safety in Oakland. But there’s a long way to go.
Just last week, a woman was hospitalized after being hit by a city bus in a Fifth Avenue crosswalk. Pedestrian safety commanded attention from former mayors Bill Peduto and Ed Gainey, and newly-inaugurated Mayor Corey O’Connor said he’ll continue the focus ([link removed]) .
