Hearings are happening Tuesday and Wednesday of this week

Hi John,

On Tuesday, February 10, and Wednesday, February 11, the House of Representatives will be holding hearings about the Department of Homeland Security, including ICE. It's critical that members of the relevant committees ask the tough questions and hold DHS leadership accountable for the abuses at their agency.

Regardless of your stance on immigration policy, no law enforcement force should be able to act without oversight. That's a recipe for abuse, unjust arrests and even unlawful deaths.

We need Congress to ask tough questions around:

  • Why are agents allowed to hide their identities behind masks, unmarked cars, and no badges?
  • What role are Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller playing in shaping or directing DHS actions that have led to abuse? And why did they lie about recent abuses, including the killing of Alex Pretti?
  • Why are states blocked from accessing crime scenes involving DHS or ICE personnel?
  • Who gave the orders allowing ICE agents to violate the Fourth Amendment and operate without judicial warrants?
  • Why is DHS requesting more money before existing abuses are independently and thoroughly investigated and addressed?

Tell your member of Congress: no more funding for DHS until we have transparency, oversight, and accountability.
