Friends,

It's the end of the month, so I'm going to have to ask you to make a donation to our fundraising deadline, but first let me share some history and thoughts with you on the anniversary of the March on Washington:

The march was one of the largest political rallies in U.S. history, helping to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Many remember it for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

Lately, I often wonder what Dr. King would think of today's politics. He'd likely be disappointed, but I know Dr. King would still be optimistic. He'd still believe we can create an America where we are all created equal -- equal in the eyes of our God, our laws, our government.

I know this because Dr. King's words tell us to not give up when it gets tough:

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

So, I reject and denounce President Trump's continued use of hateful, racist, xenophobic comments. It should shame and alarm us all to have a president who dehumanizes or demonizes others who might not look like him, pray like him, dress like him, or vote like him.

But we will follow Dr. King's guide, “hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

This campaign will always be rooted in love. It's how we won a district that voted for Trump by more than 6 points in 2018, and it's how we'll win again in 2020.

If you're proud to march forward with me in the fight for equality and opportunity for all Americans, please chip in $5 or more before our end-of-month fundraising deadline.
