** Governor Spanberger keeps using the word “affordability.” I don't think it means what she thinks it means.

E&E News ([link removed]) (2/5/26) reports: "The Virginia Department of Energy has ended its involvement in a partnership announced under former Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin that sought to identify ways to boost natural gas-fueled electricity. In October, the department said it would work with three energy companies — power producer Red Post Energy and pipeline companies Enbridge and Williams Cos. — to conduct a study identifying locations in southwestern Virginia where 'new natural gas pipeline infrastructure can support new power generation facilities.' At the time, the department said in a news release that 'the partnership brings together state government leadership with industry expertise.' Nearly four months later, Virginia’s energy department told POLITICO’s E&E News it is no longer part of the coalition."

Politico ([link removed]) (2/9/26) reports: "Energy Secretary Chris Wright told POLITICO he will soon travel to Venezuela to meet its leaders and discuss the future of its state-run oil company — but he insisted that the Trump administration’s interests in the resource-rich nation don’t revolve around oil. In an exclusive interview for the POLITICO Energy podcast, Wright said that deposing former leader Nicolás Maduro was 'not a move for more oil supply,' and that the country’s world-leading crude reserves were never a 'meaningful part of the decision-making.'"

** This is getting interesting.

CNBC ([link removed]) (2/9/26) reports: "The Cuban government said international airlines can no longer refuel there due to fuel shortages after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on any country that supplies the communist country with oil. The island nation’s leadership said Sunday that Cuba will run out of aviation fuel from Monday, likely disrupting airlines operating there, according to EFE news agency, citing two sources. The kerosene shortage is expected to persist for the next month, with all of Cuba’s international airports affected. The U.S. president said that Cuba’s ties to countries including China, Russia and Iran, human rights violations and communist leadership destabilize the region 'through migration and violence.' As part of the announcement, Trump said U.S. tariffs may target countries that provides any oil to Cuba, whether directly or indirectly."

** Go ahead, Iran, make our day.

Fox News ([link removed]) (2/5/26) reports: "Iran seized two foreign oil tankers in the Persian Gulf Thursday, accusing them of smuggling fuel and detaining 15 foreign crew members ahead of high-stakes U.S.–Iran talks Friday in Oman. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy said it intercepted the two ships near Farsi Island, claiming they were carrying about 1 million liters of smuggled fuel, Reuters reported...The seizures come as Iranian rhetoric toward the U.S. has grown hostile. Ezzatollah Zarghami, a former Iranian minister and ex–state broadcaster chief, issued a warning, threatening violence in the Strait of Hormuz, through which around one-fifth of the world’s oil and petroleum product consumption passes. "I am sure that the Strait of Hormuz will be the place of massacre and hell for the U.S.," Zarghami said Thursday."
