Last week, Donald Trump called on Republicans to “nationalize” voting and take control of elections away from the states, a dramatic and unconstitutional step that would undermine our democracy. 

In response, Governor Kotek joined every Democratic governor in condemning those remarks as an “undemocratic attempt to silence the American people.”

“Voting in free and fair elections is the foundation of our democracy. All Americans deserve to have their voices heard as they exercise their right to vote, without interference from the federal government.”

Governor Kotek proudly joined her fellow governors in standing up for states to run their own elections, reminding voters that “Trump whines about losing a free and fair election, he’s now openly talking about rigging one in the future,” but the bottom line is “Democratic governors won’t let that happen.”

Free and fair elections are non-negotiable. We will not allow federal overreach or political interference to threaten the integrity of our democracy.
