Friend,

Last year, DC lawmakers stopped a giveaway to the wealthy in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), saving the District nearly $700 million in local revenue and investing it instead in programs projected to cut child poverty by 20 percent.

Now Congress is moving quickly to override that local decision.

The Senate is expected to vote on our ability to se our own taxes tomorrow. This is a direct attack on DC residents’ right to self-govern that would strip tax credits from 78,000 children and, according to the District's CFO, could force a suspension of tax filing season for months—triggering a $1.1 billion total loss for our city.

We need to flip just 2-3 votes to stop this. Take action now: call these key Senators and urge them to vote NO on S.J.Res. 102.

CALL:

  • Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK): 202-224-6665
  • Senator Susan Collins (ME): 202-224-2523
  • Senator Ron Johnson (WI): 202-224-5323

SAY: "Hi, my name is ___ and I am a DC resident. Please vote NO on S.J.Res. 102, the disapproval resolution to undo DC’s local tax laws. This resolution would drain over $1.1 billion from our local economy and is a direct attack on the fundamental right of 700,000 DC residents to govern our own tax dollars. Decoupling from federal tax cuts is a standard practice used by many states to protect local services. Please respect our autonomy and vote NO."
