Team, these days it can be hard to keep up with the constant attacks on fair representation, alongside everything else in the news. Even for us who do this work, it can feel overwhelming and exhausting.

It’s worth noting that President Trump and his MAGA allies want us to feel that way. It’s why their primary strategy these days is sowing chaos in pursuit of their own power.

What’s getting lost in the flurry of chaos and confusion is one of their most consequential attacks on democracy itself: undermining the U.S. Census.

A new federal lawsuit is trying to prevent an accurate count in the 2030 Census — they don’t want the Census Bureau to count people who are not citizens. Let me stop right here to say that this is as unconstitutional as it gets. The 14th Amendment lays out in no uncertain terms that everyone — literally “every person” — must be counted.

In any other era, these kinds of egregious tactics would likely be dead on arrival. But Trump and his allies have shown that they are willing to disregard the rule of law to try to get their way, or hope to find a Trump-friendly court to side in their favor.

So we must prepare to fight back now to end threats like this, not to mention other countless attacks on democracy and voting rights, in their tracks. Make a donation if you can and help protect our representative democracy. [[link removed]]

There’s no doubt: Any successful effort to undermine the census will land a devastating blow to American democracy. And they’re throwing the kitchen sink at us.

Here’s the thing: The fair maps movement fought back and defeated outrageous attacks on the census last time around — and we won. These guys are beatable.

Together, we must meet this urgent moment with urgent action. Your gift today will strengthen the NDRC’s critical fight against anti-democracy attacks across the country. [[link removed]]
