Dear John,

At a moment marked by uncertainty, heightened immigration enforcement activity, and widespread misinformation, many in our communities are asking the same question:
What are my rights, and how do I protect myself and my family?

Today, MPAC’s First Amendment Center is proud to share When ICE Shows Up: A Community Safety Guide — a clear, practical resource designed to help American Muslims and our allies understand their constitutional rights and navigate encounters with immigration enforcement with calm, dignity, and confidence.

This guide explains what your rights are, what you can say, what you can refuse, and how to prepare responsibly at home and in public. It is not meant to alarm or intimidate. It exists to empower communities with accurate information, reduce fear-driven responses, and reinforce that constitutional protections apply to everyone, regardless of immigration status.

You can access and share the Community Safety Guide here:

On our website, you’ll also find a downloadable PDF version of the guide to share with your community and network, as well as an Imam and Khateeb’s Guide: Addressing Immigration Enforcement to support faith leaders in speaking to these issues with clarity and care.

We encourage you to review these resources, share them widely, and help ensure accurate information reaches those who need it most. As always, MPAC remains committed to protecting civil liberties, strengthening community safety, and standing with those most impacted.

In Service,

Dahlia Taha
Founding Director of the First Amendment Center
