John,
Today is one of the toughest days of the pandemic. A lot of people are feeling scared – and I want Victorians to know:
we’re all thinking of you.
Outbreaks can happen anywhere and we all need to be vigilant.
We will only be able to fully restart the country if we control the virus – because we know that coronavirus anywhere
is a threat to people everywhere.
That’s why Labor is today calling on the Government to urgently implement paid pandemic leave for all workers.
Labor has been constructive since the beginning of the pandemic.
We called for wage subsidies that would eventually become JobKeeper. We supported the Government getting things done quickly, because it was the right thing to do.
But it’s clear now that the Government has to do better.
Too many people are going to work when they are feeling sick.
This isn’t about blaming people. Many of them are working multiple insecure jobs with no sick leave. People are
having to choose between feeding their family and protecting public health.
And as we’ve seen, the virus can quickly spread from workplaces to homes – and even across state boundaries.
Will you join us and share this post to call on the Government to urgently implement a paid pandemic leave scheme for all workers?
Stay healthy. Stay safe.
