Over the last year, Congressman Joe Courtney has been fighting the Trump administration’s agenda of tax cuts for billionaires, deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, and an out-of-control ICE funded by H.R. 1—what he calls the “One Big Ugly Bill.” Just last week in Washington, he blasted the new student loan caps in H.R. 1 that will dramatically drive up the cost of education for nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
At the same time Congressman Joe Courtney has stayed laser focused on what matters to Eastern Connecticut: good paying union jobs and a growing local economy.
As detailed in the The Day article [[link removed]] , Joe’s leadership as both Chair and Ranking Member of the House Seapower Subcommittee, responsible for authorizing Navy shipbuilding budgets, along with his work on the Education and Workforce Committee, has delivered historic results for our state.
The 2026 hiring target announced by Electric Boat shatters the company’s previous record of 5,000 jobs set in 2023, an extraordinary milestone for a company more than 120 years old. To meet this goal, EB will be recruiting beyond New London County, reaching north and west across Eastern Connecticut.
Joe’s efforts have earned him the strong support of the Metal Trades and Marine Draftsmen's unions at the Groton shipyard, which ratified historic labor contracts in 2025. Those contracts delivered major wage and benefit increases made possible by 2024 “wage improvement funding” Joe helped secure in the Navy budget.
It’s this kind of principled, knowledgeable leadership that has made Joe a top-performing Democrat, election after election. This is exactly the leadership our party needs as we head into the critical 2026 election year.
