John - did you see the new poll out tonight? Tonight's 1 News Colmar Brunton poll showed exactly what we’d hope: that we’re tracking in the right direction, with our vote share increasing to 53%, and National’s falling to 32%. But as TVNZ political editor Jessica Mutch McKay said this evening, a week is a long time in politics, and with over seven weeks still to go, everything can still change - there’s no room for complacency. In June, the 1 News Poll had us at 50% of the Party Vote, and the National Party at 38%, so it’s heartening to see us moving in the right direction. Of course, the only poll that truly matters is the election itself. And there’s no doubt that the National Party will be concerned by these recent poll results, and will be leaning on their largest donors to give them more money to run their attack ads and stop our momentum. A short note on donations: John, recently our focus has been on helping communities through COVID-19. It wasn’t a time for political campaigning, but instead a time for concentrating on the welfare of our communities. This was absolutely the right decision.
