The Heritage Foundation, which is famously the architect behind the deeply concerning “Project 2025” – is back in the headlines for another proposal to reduce women’s access and autonomy. But they’re calling it, “Saving America by Saving the Family.”

Their proposed strategy? Limit women’s education, attack birth control and IVF, roll back no-fault divorce, and more.

Here is a direct quote from their report: “Over the course of 60 years, casual sex, abortion, childlessness by choice, and no-fault divorce became normalized, while marriage and the natural family became stigmatized.”

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: our BEST defense against these policies will be to have MORE pro-women WOMEN LAWMAKERS in the rooms where decisions about our safety, our wellbeing, and our body are being made. From a woman’s perspective, the most egregious parts of “Saving America by Saving the Family” aren’t subtle. They’re structural. The plan treats women’s independence as a problem to be solved, not a reality to support.

This will show up as actual policies that undermine women’s autonomy: discouraging workforce participation, weakening childcare and labor protections, restricting reproductive freedom, and prioritizing “family stability” over women’s safety and consent. The goal is: women’s economic dependence, heightened vulnerability to abuse, and a society that merits women’s bodily autonomy beneath state and societal goals.

The throughline is not simply being “pro-family,” but redefining women’s rights as secondary to preserving a particular family ideal—reversing decades of feminist gains centered on choice, equality, and self-determination.

Here’s the thing: Out of the 900-page Project 2025 blueprint the Heritage Foundation created for the Trump administration, half of it has already been implemented. In fact, many of their proposed policies were pushed through on Day 1 of Trump’s presidency, despite him calling the ideas “ridiculous” during his campaign. This group and its policy recommendations aren’t on the fringes of the MAGA movement – they’re a real threat to everyday Americans.
