The SAVE America Act Fights On

The failure of Senate Republican leadership to fight for popular election reforms is not only foolish; it’s infuriating.

As you likely know, the SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship for voter registration and Voter ID to vote in federal elections. It’s overwhelmingly supported by Americans across the political spectrum, but of course, Washington Democrats oppose it. It’s no secret that Democrats want illegal immigrants to vote for them.

What is somewhat of a secret is that a few Republicans don’t really want it either. And no, it’s not because they think states should control federal elections. They have all previously supported federal election laws. The real reason is that they know that if our elections are secure, it will be easier for voters to elect the kind of conservatives who will push the Party to fight for our principles and values.

Senate Republican Leader John Thune (R-SD) gave us a tactical gift when he said the talking filibuster strategy proposed by conservatives to break Democrat obstruction would “tie up the Senate” and take valuable time. In doing so, he admitted that it’s a viable strategy that just takes time — something all Republicans should be willing to spend for such an important policy objective.

The Fight Continues

Thankfully, the House is scheduled to pass the SAVE America Act this week, and we have a group of Senate Conservatives who are not giving up.

Three of those senators are Mike Lee (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Ron Johnson (R-WI). They met with President Trump in the Oval Office last week to develop a strategy to advance the SAVE America Act.

These men have been working tirelessly, both in private and in public, to advance this legislation and combat the endless excuses made by many of their own party's lawmakers.

If you have just a few minutes to spare, please call their offices and let their staff know that you appreciate their leadership on the Save America Act and that you support getting it signed into law THIS YEAR and with only 51 SENATE VOTES.

Also, tell them that you agree that the “Zombie Filibuster”, where senators get to block the SAVE America Act without even debating, must be stopped no matter how long it takes.
