** End to Begin

February 9, 2026
I used to write first thing in the morning. I would wake up very early, and before work or school—before having coffee even—I would try to jot down at least 1,000 words. But that was before having my son.
There’s nothing like parenthood to suddenly and drastically change your schedule. I learned to write one-handed, as my then-infant slept in a sling in my arms. I learned to write in a parked car as he napped in his car seat. I learned to write at any time of day or night. I adapted.
In this installment of Justice This Week, we’re looking at adaptations, from what the termination of Temporary Protected Status could mean for thousands of immigrants in the United States to a call to imagine a world built on collective care—not extraction. How can we work through a transition? How can we make something better next time?
Sometimes a process, or a way of life, must end before a new one can begin.
