Montana’s Senate race is shattering fundraising records -- but we’re still being outraised in Big Sky Country.

Incumbent Republican Steve Daines has raised $12.9 million as of the end of June, and Montana Governor Steve Bullock has raised nearly $11 million. But Steve Daines is getting big help from dark-money conservative groups who have donated nearly $2 million to try to keep this seat.

This winter, no one predicted this seat could be competitive -- but Steve Bullock is a beloved governor leading his state by relying on data and science during this pandemic, and has won two consecutive terms as Montana’s governor. Now he’s ready to serve in the Senate, and polls have this race locked 46-44, with Steve leading -- but the numbers are within the margin of error.
