Plain common sense: Just like President Theodore Roosevelt’s proverbial “man in the arena,” The Heritage Foundation has had its share of slings and arrows—and that means that our policy prescriptions are hitting the mark.

  • “We have stayed true to our mission despite the critics; we have turned out to be right on some big questions in recent years, and the country is better for it,” writes Heritage Executive Vice President Derrick Morgan.

Turn around: After decades of unfettered growth, the immigration trends in the U.S. are finally reversing. For the first time since the ’70s, the U.S. had negative net migration in 2025.

  • “This negative trend needs to continue. America still has millions of deportable aliens here. Resources are still going to them instead of American taxpayers,” writes Lora Ries, director of The Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center.

High seas: Restoring America’s naval strength has to include reviving the Merchant Marine, says Brent Sadler, a senior fellow at Heritage.

  • “The United States must have a commercial fleet capable of supporting national security,” writes Sadler and Young Leaders Program member Hollins Randolf, who served in the Merchant Marine.

Minnesota Fraud Is Just the Tip of the Iceberg

Assimilation: The massive fraud in Minnesota exposed the mass migration of people into the U.S. who don’t share the nation’s values.

  • “Lawmakers must re-establish the precedent enforced in years past where immigrants cannot burden the taxpayer and social safety net programs are reserved exclusively for American citizens,” writes Nicole Huyer, senior research associate in Heritage’s Roe Institute.
