For nearly sixty years, NCAR has been at the forefront of earth science research, strengthening the weather and climate predictions that we all rely on. NCAR’s work enables air quality monitoring, forecasts of droughts and extreme precipitation events, commercial flight air turbulence research, and improved hurricane intensity and associated flood risk forecasts—the kind of events we are experiencing more often and with greater severity. In other words, Jack, NCAR helps keep us safe and helps us prepare for disasters. Yet Russell Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, has already confirmed plans to close the center’s main laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, and dismantle its integrated and collaborative work, fragmenting its benefits. This decision undermines decades of scientific research and leaves our nation vulnerable. That’s why it’s so important that you join us in telling Congress to stop this attack on science and protect NCAR now >> |
