Every day, I hear from more and more constituents who are deeply concerned about affordability.
Groceries, gas, education, housing, health care, and raising a family. The cost of everything has gone up.
And now a new national poll confirms what so many people are already feeling every day: the middle class is drifting out of reach.
Look, I’m a millennial, so I honestly can’t think of a time in the last twenty-something years when my generation wasn’t facing economic shocks and crises. From the Great Recession, when there were no jobs available, to the explosion of tuition costs and student debt, to the COVID-19 pandemic and the housing and child care crises.
So as a generation, we know a thing or two about the economy failing us. But it’s not just us. A full two-thirds of Americans say a middle-class life is out of reach for most people.
Way too many people in this country are living with the constant dread of when the next hit will come. And for way too many people, a single emergency will wipe out their savings completely.
And now on top of all that, we also have to worry about Trump sending lethal immigration forces into our communities. Instead of lowering costs as he promised to voters, Donald Trump is making everyday life harder — and scarier.
This is not economic leadership. It’s chaos and cruelty to distract from the fact that Trump and Republicans actually don’t care one bit about affordability.
If they cared about making life easier for Americans, they wouldn’t be handing out tax breaks to billionaires, gutting health care and food assistance, and blocking any real action on affordability.
But this poll (and a series of decisive Democratic electoral victories since Trump was re-elected) tells us that voters are starting to see through it. A majority of Americans say Trump’s policies have made life less affordable.
Young people, parents, and working families across party lines are saying the same thing: they’re working harder than ever and getting less in return.
That’s why taking back the House this November matters so much.
Right now, Republicans are using their power to protect the wealthy, attack immigrants, and block solutions that would actually help families breathe a little easier. If we flip the House, we can put affordability front and center again: lower health care costs, tackle housing, address the child care crisis, protect families, and stop Trump’s most dangerous abuses of power.
This election is about more than politics. It’s about whether people can afford to live with dignity and without fear.
We have to kick the GOP out of the majority, flip the House, and start delivering results for people who are struggling.
Will you join me? No amount is too small — anything you contribute today adds up to directly support our work to flip the House in November. [[link removed]]
