It was wonderful to be back in Washington, D.C., continuing to fight to deliver meaningful solutions on the most important issues to you. I'm back in the saddle, keeping a busy schedule as I continue to make immense progress in my recovery. This week, House Republicans demonstrated leadership once again by voting to keep the government funded and open despite the objections of Democrats who oppose the enforcement of our immigration laws. Additionally, I had the privilege of meeting with many constituents, leaders, and community stakeholders from our beautiful district over the last two weeks, discussing how Congress can best meet your needs.

It is an honor to represent you and be a strong voice for the needs of Eastern North Carolina in Congress. I look forward to our diligent work ahead to meaningfully address the top challenges facing our country, including lowering the cost of living and healthcare, and improving community safety. The United States is the greatest country in the world, and we must remain laser-focused on building an economy that uplifts all Americans.

Meeting with North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys

It was wonderful to meet with the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys!

DAs play an important role in protecting the community and upholding the law. I deeply respect the immense dedication to public service that doing so effectively requires.

Meeting with American Medical Association

It was a pleasure to meet with Dr. John Whyte, CEO of the American Medical Association, to discuss our shared priorities, including improving access to high-quality, affordable healthcare and putting patients before the profits of greedy health insurance companies. I am excited to hear of the new changes he is instituting to make the AMA address the real challenges we face in medicine.

Recently, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on the impact of rising healthcare costs on patients and families. Due to health insurers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and their subsidiaries, the current cost of healthcare is artificially high and continues to rise.

Until we take seriously why healthcare costs so much, we won't be able to fix the problem. We have to commit to reducing the growing cost of care in this country through competition rather than just putting a taxpayer-funded Band-Aid on a bureaucratic disaster.

I appreciate the American Medical Association's renewed commitment to patient-centered advocacy to put patients and their physicians back in the driver’s seat!

Recognizing Ocracoke School's Angela Emireth Flores on the House Floor

It was an honor to recognize Angela Emireth Flores on the House floor for her incredible achievement of soon becoming the first student from Ocracoke School to graduate from high school with an associate degree from Beaufort County Community College.

As a surgeon, I am elated to hear that Angela plans on hitting the books hard to become a nurse anesthetist. Eastern North Carolina needs more dedicated and diligent individuals in medicine.

Congratulations on such a remarkable achievement, Angela, and a special thank you to her parents for nurturing her in her educational journey!

In the District

Meeting with Greenville's Emerge Gallery & Art Center and New Bern's Craven Arts Council & Gallery

I had the opportunity to meet with Holly Garriott, Executive Director of the Emerge Gallery in Greenville, and Jon Burger, Executive Director of Craven Arts Council & Gallery in New Bern, to discuss funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and promotion of local entities and events.

The House and Senate both passed the Interior Appropriations Bill, which funds the NEA at $207 million for FY26. I believe the arts inspire creativity, foster emotional well-being, and help inspire future generations.

Thank you to Holly and Jon for their advocacy and for meeting with me to share how the NEA impacts Eastern North Carolina!

Visit to Thermo Fischer Scientific in Greenville

Thermo Fisher Scientific has invested millions into our state and Eastern North Carolina. They employ thousands of our residents to deliver cutting-edge technology for the healthcare industry. The Pitt County facility is making history as the company’s first site to use a continuous manufacturing line, where development and production are fully integrated, allowing the process to run uninterrupted and more efficiently. I thoroughly enjoyed touring the Steriles South Facility, Steriles University Training Center, and Model Labs to learn more about these operations and observe the consolidated operation.

As a physician and scientist for 35 years, I am grateful for the mission of this company to improve the lives of patients, keep people safe, and allow customers to make healthier, cleaner, and safer decisions. Researchers, organizations, and companies within the scientific community are thriving due to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s innovations.

Team Murphy Attends the 20th Annual Ag Development Forum

Team Murphy was privileged to attend the 20th Annual Agricultural Development Forum to engage with our state’s incredible farmers and agriculture leaders, including North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, USDA Under Secretary Dudley Hoskins, American Farm Bureau’s Ryan Yates, and NC State’s Dr. Jeff Dorfman.

In Congress, it is my honor to represent Eastern North Carolina farmers and fight on their behalf every day. From hogs and turkeys to sweetpotatoes and tobacco, our farmers here in the East are the backbone of our state’s continued prosperity.

Thank you for your service to our nation; I remain steadfast in my commitment to be your best advocate in Washington.

Team Murphy Attends North Carolina for Military Employment Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony in Jacksonville

Team Murphy attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for North Carolina for Military Employment in Jacksonville to celebrate the organization’s new office space. NC4ME is a public-private partnership established to make North Carolina the number one state for military employment.

Over 23,800 career connections have been made through NC4ME programs, and over 52% of these connections have resulted in a job offer or a second interview, all at no cost to candidates or employers. By leveraging existing workforce development resources and technology that implement an employer-centric strategy, NC4ME educates, trains, and connects high-performing military personnel with businesses.

I am proud to support this organization’s mission, see its growth, and celebrate its success as it helps our military in Eastern North Carolina.

Team Murphy Attends Grand Opening of Carteret Health Care’s New Radiation Oncology Center

Team Murphy had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Carteret Health Care’s (CHC) new Radiation Oncology Center!

CHC is an independent and not-for-profit entity and a member of the prestigious Mayo Clinic Care Network. It has had a presence here since 1967, and the campus has continued to grow by leaps and bounds over the years. Today, the hospital boasts 135 beds and offers a wide variety of acute care, diagnostic, and outpatient services.

A special thank you to Eastern North Carolina’s own Grady-White Boats for its generous contribution to this center, which will serve our community exceptionally well and save lives.

Team Murphy Attends Western Carteret County Boat Launch Groundbreaking

Team Murphy had the privilege to attend and celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Western Carteret County Boat Launch Facility, which will enhance access for recreational and commercial boaters to Bogue Sound and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.

Planning for this new facility has been underway for several years, and I am proud to have helped secure the project’s final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I cannot wait for its grand opening!

National Cancer Prevention Month

February is National Cancer Prevention Month, a time in which we recognize the tragedy that cancerous diseases are and the steps we can take to prevent them. Over a third of cancer cases are linked to lifestyle and could be mitigated or avoided entirely. Smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and a poor diet are major contributors.

As a physician and surgeon, I have treated countless patients who have suffered from terrible cancer diagnoses. Raising awareness of the causes of cancer and encouraging loved ones to lead healthy lives is one of the most impactful ways we can work to improve America's health.
