News From Congressman Bilirakis

Dear Neighbor,

Last week, I continued working on behalf of the families, seniors, Veterans, and small businesses of Florida’s 12th Congressional District. Whether advocating for public safety, supporting local job creators, honoring public servants, or ensuring taxpayers keep more of their hard earned money, my focus remains on delivering real results for our community. I am grateful for the opportunity to listen, engage, and act on the issues that matter most to you.  Continue reading for a brief overview of my efforts on your behalf.

Supporting Local Manufacturers and Job Creators:  I recently held an important roundtable discussion with small manufacturing business owners in Hernando County to hear directly about the challenges they are facing. Manufacturing plays a vital role in our nation’s economy, and we must create an environment where job creators can innovate, grow, and succeed. I will continue working in Congress to reduce unnecessary barriers and support policies that help local manufacturers thrive.

Standing Together Against Human Trafficking:  I was honored to participate in Pasco County’s Human Trafficking Awareness event and contribute to an important conversation on awareness and prevention. Human trafficking is not a distant problem. It exists in our cities, towns, and neighborhoods, preying on the most vulnerable among us including women, men, and children. Together with survivors, advocates, law enforcement, grassroots organizations, and everyday citizens, we refuse to look away. Trafficking has no place in our society, and we will not rest until it is eradicated. I am proud that Pasco County has long been a leader in this fight, using innovative strategies to identify victims, provide support, and educate the public.

Making Tax Filing Easier for Families:  As tax season begins, Americans are seeing bigger paychecks, larger refunds, and new opportunities to build long term financial security. Taxpayers deserve transparency, simplicity, and a filing process that works for them, not against them.  As noted in this editorial, I will continue supporting efforts that put more money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans.

In Pasco County, free income tax preparation is available at two locations. I stopped by to thank these dedicated volunteers for their hard work and service.  This program is available to low and moderate income individuals and seniors with incomes under $100,000. Services include electronic filing, with refunds typically received within 10 days to two weeks. New benefits this year include deductions for income from tips or overtime, financing a new American made car in 2025, and an additional $6,000 deduction for seniors age 65 and older.  To make an appointment, visit events.seniorsinservice.org/taxprep or call 813-819-9864.

Honoring a Lifetime of Service to Veterans:  It was an honor to celebrate Dr. Steven G. Scott and his 35 years of distinguished service to our nation’s Service members and Veterans. Since joining the VA in 1990, Dr. Scott has been a visionary leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation, advancing innovative programs, mentoring future healthcare professionals, and improving the lives of countless Veterans. His career reflects the very best of public service, and I am proud to call him a friend.

Recognizing Innovation in Mental Health Care:  I was proud to meet with Pasco County’s Community Development Department while they were in Washington to accept a national award recognizing their innovative use of federal funds to open a mental health urgent care clinic. Their forward-thinking approach is expanding access to critical mental health services and strengthening community well being. This recognition is well deserved, and I commend their leadership and commitment to delivering meaningful results for Pasco County residents.

Strengthening Public Safety Communications:  During last week’s Communications and Technology Subcommittee hearing, we took a deep dive into the FirstNet program, reviewing its performance and ongoing efforts to reauthorize this vital public safety initiative. FirstNet ensures first responders have reliable, secure, and interoperable communications when lives are on the line. The discussion highlighted the importance of strengthening and sustaining this program for the communities we serve. Click here to learn more.

Raising Awareness:  Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States, but prevention starts with awareness and action. This month, I encourage everyone to focus on healthy habits, early detection, and supporting heart health for ourselves and our loved ones.

Inviting You: Each year, I host a senior forum to connect seniors with valuable resources, services, and support available in our community. This is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and get assistance to make the most of your retirement years. Space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP to secure your spot at this important and informative event happening near you.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team was proud to join leaders in Citrus County to honor the life and lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

My team also enjoyed working alongside fellow volunteers to help feed those in need at a recent Farm Share food distribution event in Pasco County.

Additionally, my team stood alongside county and state leaders to mark the official kickoff of the CR 491 road widening project—an important investment in local infrastructure that will improve safety, mobility, and economic growth for the region.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message from a constituent after speaking as a panelist at Leadership Tampa Bay.

Thank you, so much, for your support to Leadership Tampa Bay class of 2026. I truly enjoyed the conversation you had with our table during the panel discussions. I am almost embarrassed to say how much I learned in our short time together, but it really was enlightening.  Also, I was moved by how quickly you pulled out your card when I shared that I had a friend having problems with Medicare. I told him about the case workers our representatives have (that I did not know about until you shared that with us) and gave him your information in case they were not able to help. Long story short, he was able to rectify everything without having to go any further, but just knowing there was someone he could call if it did come to that…. Priceless.  Thanks, again, and have a wonderful week!

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office.  The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape.  Also, if you are planning a trip to Washington, DC please let us know 90 days in advance so we can help make the most of your visit.   We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
