Friend, it’s no secret that ICE is completely out of control.
That’s why I am reintroducing my bill in the Senate to end qualified immunity for ICE and all federal law enforcement.
Over the last few weeks, we have collected thousands and thousands of signatures from this incredible team in support of my bill. It’s helped us show a groundswell of support for this common sense idea.
Friend, when masked agents of the state are allowed to kill and harm people with impunity, we have crossed a dangerous threshold in our nation — the first steps into full-on fascism.
And all too often, the flawed doctrine of qualified immunity shields these agents from liability, even when they commit egregious misconduct or use excessive force.
It even shields them from being sued for violating basic constitutional rights — something that’s happening on a daily basis under Trump’s watch. It’s wrong, and it enables the worst of what we are seeing from ICE today.
My bill abolishes qualified immunity in cases against federal law enforcement officers, allowing victims to seek justice and restitution in court.
There couldn’t be a more urgent time to introduce this bill back into the Senate, and for this movement to stand together to demand accountability.
