Dear John,
Yesterday, Salt Lake County certified its official final results in the mayoral primary and awarded us 16.74% of the votes. Though it means we came up short of moving through the primary, it is a result I am proud of.
Remember, we started around 2% in a crowded, competitive field. In a few months we grew significantly and came within 3.5% of one of the state's biggest political names--Jim Dabakis--and not far from second place.
I cannot thank you enough for believing in me and helping us to get to where we did. I know that this number represents hundreds of hours of volunteer labor knocking doors and talking to friends. It represents thousands of dollars in donations. It represents a significant number of people in Salt Lake, and outside of it too, who believe--like me--that we can address big problems.
While I am still figuring out what is next for me, I promise not to give up on working to make our community a better place. In particular, I continue to believe that we can take big steps to address air quality problems and tackle climate change.
Thank you for being part of this. Please keep in touch. And I look forward to working, with you, on big issues in the future.
Best,
David Garbett
