Even during a pandemic, mothers still need to give birth.
Children still need to be immunized for measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
HIV and TB patients still need to take their daily medicines.
But around the world, COVID-19 has made it harder for people to access routine essential health services. Curfews have made it more difficult for pregnant women to reach clinics for prenatal visits. Delayed vaccination campaigns could lead to outbreaks of infectious diseases. This pandemic could lead to preventable deaths—even for people who are never infected with the coronavirus.
Doctors Without Borders is on the ground directly treating COVID-19 and doing everything we can to keep other essential health programs up and running. Both are critical and urgent. You can help keep this going as the pandemic continues to spread.
