Friend, February is Black History Month, which marks a time to honor and celebrate Black Americans and Black History.
As a dad and former teacher, I want my kids to grow up knowing the stories that shape our home. That means celebrating Black artists and leaders who came from right here in Ohio. I think of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the Dayton poet whose words captured both pain and hope. I think of Toni Morrison, born in Lorain, whose novels opened the world’s eyes to the depths of Black life and imagination. I think of Sojourner Truth, whose powerful voice helped move our nation toward justice and whose story touched communities across Ohio.
These stories matter because they remind us what’s possible when communities invest in each other. On Cincinnati’s city council, I worked to expand access to preschool because I saw firsthand how early opportunity changes a life. Honoring Black History Month means honoring that work — investing in education, uplifting local leaders, and making sure every child in our district can write their own story.
That work has never been more important, and I’m honored to play a part in it each and every day in Congress.
Thanks for all you do, and Happy Black History Month.
In solidarity,
Greg Landsman 💙🙏
