Hi friend, it's Deb Haaland. Did you hear the exciting news? I have filed to be on the ballot to become New Mexico's next governor!
I felt so honored to deliver ballot petitions signed by thousands of grassroots supporters across New Mexico. And I felt proud to wear my traditional ribbon skirt as I filed. When I wear traditional clothing — like my ribbon skirt or my mocs — I'm reminded of how powerful our clothing is to our shared heritage. I rock my ribbon skirt to honor the people whose shoulders I stand on.
In a minute, I'm going to share some of the other places I've rocked my ribbon skirt and mocs. But before I do, I have to ask: Will you please help us build on this winning momentum by giving $5 to my campaign right now?

On the day I was sworn in as Secretary of the Interior, I decided to wear my white moccasins and a handmade ribbon skirt adorned with butterflies, stars, and corn. No matter where I go, I am a proud Pueblo woman first — including at the Department of the Interior.

On the first day of the White House Tribal Nations Summit in 2021, I wore my beaded moccasins in solidarity with our Indigenous people across the country. I am incredibly grateful that together, our administration made extraordinary accomplishments for Indian Country — enduring progress that would make our ancestors proud.

From my ancestral homelands here in New Mexico to the halls of Congress — and as I just filed my candidate petition to add my name to New Mexico's ballot for governor — I rock my ribbon skirt to honor my ancestors.

Friend, history has shown us there’s nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together, which is why I’m counting on the support of people like you as we fight for a New Mexico that works for everyone.

I am so excited and thankful to everyone who helped me pass the first major hurdle in what will be an expensive and competitive race — but this race is just heating up, and we still have a long way to go till November. I am ready to fight for an education that gives every child the chance to dream big and reach their full potential here in New Mexico. Give families a raise by increasing the minimum wage and the child tax credit. Protect affordable healthcare and expand access to treatment and recovery programs for those suffering from addiction.
