This fight is personal to me.

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. My grandfather grew up on a farm near where Dulles Airport stands today. Now my wife Yvette and I are raising our son Mateo just down the road from where I grew up.

My mom was a nurse. My dad was a plumber. They taught me to work hard, do the right thing especially when it’s hard, and never back down from a bully.

At 26, I got the opportunity of a lifetime: Congressman Gerry Connolly asked me to be his Chief of Staff. For more than a decade, including during Trump’s first term, I helped lead his team in Congress. We passed the Affordable Care Act, secured major investments for Northern Virginia, and fought back against attacks on immigrants, federal workers, and our democracy.

In 2019, I flipped a Republican-held seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and got right to work. I led efforts to ban guns from libraries and rec centers, protect abortion rights, raise teacher pay, and take real action on climate change.

And when Trump ally Stephen Miller threatened to jail me for refusing to turn Fairfax police into ICE agents, I stood my ground. And I always will.

Today I serve on the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees, where I am holding Donald Trump and his allies accountable as they attack the federal workforce and undermine our democratic institutions. But that makes me one of their top targets.
