NY-17 is one of 33 House swing districts the Swing Left community is targeting this November
GOP Rep. Mike Lawler in New York’s 17th Congressional District
Friend,
New York’s 17th Congressional District is one of the 33 competitive seats Swing Left is targeting that have the power to determine whether Democrats regain control of the House next year.
A major independent analyst, the Cook Political Report, recently shifted NY-17’s rating from Lean Republican to Toss Up, and new analysis from CNN shows a “huge Democratic rebound” in the state that highlights how vulnerable Mike Lawler could be this year.
If you’re ready to help flip NY-17 and take back the House, will you donate a contribution of $25 or any amount today to support Swing Left and our 33 battleground targets?

Despite representing a battleground district, Republican Congressman Mike Lawler has voted with Trump 100% of the time and consistently backs Trump-aligned priorities and national Republicans—even when it puts his own constituents at risk.
Lawler voted to cut Medicaid and food assistance programs that impacted 300,000 New York households. He also voted to cut over $7 billion in revenue for New York hospitals and threaten funding for 75 hospitals already in financial distress. And he proudly claimed he was a top recipient of America PAC, a super PAC created by Elon Musk, from which he received over $1.7 million in 2024.
This seat is one of the clearest opportunities Democrats have to flip a vulnerable Republican-held district and win back the House majority. Here’s why NY-17 is flippable:
- Lawler won reelection in 2024 by just six points, and shifting national dynamics have only made his position weaker.
- New polling shows New York House Democrats ahead by 27 points (more than double Kamala Harris’ margin in 2024).
- NY-17 is already one of just three Republican-held districts nationwide that Kamala Harris won in 2024. And there are 86,000 more registered Democratic voters in the district than Republicans.
- Democratic momentum is growing across New York. The Cook Political Report shifted every competitive New York House race in Democrats’ direction last month.
Swing Left is focused on directing grassroots time and dollars to the highest-impact actions in the most competitive races in the country—and NY-17 is one of them. Winning seats like this one is how Democrats will take back the House and put a real legislative check on Trump’s agenda. By investing now, we can build early support for the eventual Democratic nominee running in NY-17, while funding on-the-ground voter contact programs like Ground Truth—listening-first outreach that Swing Left volunteers are already using to engage voters in these swing districts.
That’s why today, we’re asking you to split a donation of $25, or any amount that makes sense for you, between Swing Left and all 33 of our House targets—including NY-17.
