Virginia needs a lieutenant governor who has the experience to lead our commonwealth forward.

Delegate Ayala and I represent districts next door to each other here in Prince William County. She's been my sister through and through as we've won fight after fight together. See that photo? Hala and I were celebrating together in June 2017 when our local school board voted to protect LGBTQ kids after a hard-fought 16-month battle. Later that year, we both unseated entrenched Republican incumbents and won our 2019 re-elections by even wider margins to help secure the first Democratic state House majority in 20 years!

Together, we expanded Medicaid to 441,087 Virginians (and counting!). We stood up for immigrants by successfully fighting for the DREAM Act and to guarantee driver's privilege cards. We were on the frontlines for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, protecting LGBTQ Virginians from discrimination, protecting our climate and workers, squashing payday lending and mandating background checks for gun purchases. We've run together, won together, served together and enacted historic policies together, so I know she's ready to lead.

As a multi-racial daughter of an immigrant who survived on Medicaid as a young single mother, Hala understands the personal struggles of so many Virginians -- and Americans across the country -- because she's lived them. As the first out-and-seated transgender state legislator in American history, I count on the candidates I endorse to welcome Virginians because of who they are, not despite it. I know that's the core of who Hala is as a person, and I know that's the inclusive leadership she's ready to bring statewide.

Now as delegates in the most progressive General Assembly ever elected in Virginia, I'm so excited to help Hala become the first woman to ever serve as lieutenant governor in Virginia history!
