Hey John,

First off, thank you for fighting for justice alongside our team at Real Justice this year. Together, we have made a real difference.

I have an update for you today that is both personal for me, and, I hope, will help you feel even more empowered to be part of this work.

Since the Black Lives Matter movement began, I’ve traveled to 47 different states teaching and organizing people. I’ve squeezed lessons from painful defeats and learned how we can smartly duplicate our victories. And on a daily basis, I’m still getting the same question that I first got in 2014 - “Shaun - how can I best use my life to fight injustice and make a difference in the world?”

For years, I struggled to fire off quick answers to this question - just wanting to be helpful - but I eventually came to understand that this question simply does not have a quick answer. It took me thousands of days across hundreds of campaigns and actions to really learn the answer for myself.

I spent the last year writing and editing out that answer across 272 pages of research and reflections. And in just a few days, my brand new book, Make Change: How to Fight Injustice, Dismantle Systemic Oppression, and Own Our Future will be released.

Starting on August 4th, I am doing a 60 city virtual tour all over the country. Here are the dates and locations! I’d really love to see you there. I am customizing each event for each city, with points and lessons that will help you right where you are. Every single ticket you purchase for the tour includes a copy of the book!

100% of the profits will be going to independent Black-owned bookstores that we are partnering with all over the country. They need our support now more than ever! Many of them have not even been able to open their doors yet because of the pandemic and are barely holding on. This tour is going to help them.

I hate to even have to say this, because people spread so many lies about me, but I was paid to write this book last year. So I don’t get paid when you buy a copy. I don’t get paid if I sell a certain number of copies. And I don’t get paid when you come to the tour events. This is not a money grab or some get rich scheme. I just believe so much in the lessons, because I’ve seen them work myself, that I want to share them with you every way I know how. I want us to change the world together.
