Hi John,
Supporters like you have burning questions about property rights in Canada.
A recent court decision said some land titles could be “defective and invalid,” because of Aboriginal title claims. The Cowichan First Nation went to court to seek the declaration regarding property in Richmond, B.C. The decision is being appealed, but the British Columbia government has already put up $150 million to backstop mortgages and loans in that area.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg because court cases using that same argument are popping up across Canada.
This decision has “potentially significant nationwide significance, particularly relating to private property rights,” a federal government spokesperson told journalists.
Taxpayers like you have lots of questions about how these court cases can affect private property like your own home. And there’s a lot of uncertainty about how much this could cost taxpayers.
If you have questions, we want to track down the answers.
Here’s the plan… Just use the green button below to send us your questions. Then we’ll shoot a video that answers as many questions as possible. And we’ll let you know the minute it’s ready.
