Dear John, I’m writing today to share how deeply grateful all of us at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) are for your courageous support. Over the past several months, we have received an extraordinary outpouring of generosity and action both from longtime allies and from new supporters finding their way to NIJC. Together, we are thousands strong. More than 9,000 donors stepped forward in just the past few months, and 46,000 supporters receive our alerts and calls to action. In the past few weeks, you have sent more than 18,000 messages to your members of Congress telling them to oppose giving more funding for ICE and Border Patrol. This community is powerful, and we are grateful you have chosen to stand with us. The deliberate chaos and cruelty we are seeing from this administration hurts families, neighbors, and the rule of law itself. But together we are stronger, and we are on the right side of justice. NIJC’s lawyers and pro bono partners are helping to hold the line in courtrooms across the country. And behind them stands our unwavering community. Whether you have donated, taken action, or shared our resources, you are part of a collective force grounded in courage, compassion, and an unrelenting belief in justice. This work cannot happen without you. We have been especially humbled by the many gifts entrusted to us honoring the lives of those who have tragically lost their lives. We honor Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Keith Porter Jr., Silverio Villegas González, and the 53 people who have died in ICE and Border Patrol custody since last year. We carry their legacies forward through our work. The continuous outpouring of action has been a powerful reminder that grief and anger can move us towards purpose, and we are seeing the power of collective action. Last week, sustained pressure from across the country helped stop a federal funding package that would have poured billions more taxpayer dollars into ICE and Border Patrol. Together, we are so powerful. NIJC was founded to defend human rights and uphold the rule of law irrespective of politics. That mission has never been more critical. We are defending due process, challenging unlawful arrests and detention, fighting the disappearance of community members, and holding this administration accountable in the courts. We are winning cases. And when we don’t, we are building records, advancing appeals, and documenting abuses so justice can one day prevail. Only weeks into 2026, it is clear we have entered a new phase of this fight. What sustains all of us here at NIJC during these dark moments is the courage and strength of this community. Thank you for continuing to speak up. Thank you for taking action. Thank you for standing with immigrant communities when they need it most. It is a true privilege to be in community with you. With gratitude, Lisa Koop NIJC Director of Legal Services |
