This is a code red.
What more evidence do we need that Donald Trump is trying to torch our republic?
He tried to light democracy on fire when he lost the election. He has set aside the rule of law in favor of the Rule of Don.
And Congress? We don't have co-equal branches of government. We have a supine Congress and a president who doesn't even pay attention to court orders.
So what do we do?
We can roll over ... like the universities, law firms, Paramount, Meta, and so many companies are doing ... and watch it all disappear.
Or we can stand on principle.
This is a moment that reminds me of Bobby Kennedy’s speech at the 1964 Democratic Convention.
Bobby Kennedy said that JFK would have never been able to accomplish any of what he did without the support of all of you — the Democratic Party.
He said that when we’re in it together, we can accomplish a great deal. That remains true today, and it's the only way forward.
