** Message from the Secretary General

This Ramadan - we are asking you to think global and act local
Assalamu Aleikum,
on the surface of it, there is no obvious link between your overcrowded local hospital and the genocide in Gaza. But scratch beneath the surface and you realise that they have more in common than you think.
Both are rooted in your political, economic and structural disempowerment. Both are symptoms of a system built for the elite few. From rising rents to falling public finances, there is no hope as we’ve gone from politicians who could stand against Hitler to those who only seem to have had Epstein on speed-dial.
But if we want results we’ve never had, we will need to do what we have never done. Activate. Participate. Coordinate. The May local elections are our chance. Ensure you are registered to vote and then encourage others in our community to do so too by becoming a Get Out The Vote Champion.
This Ramadan, let’s get hungry for change.

** Hungry for Change - Ramadan 2026 Campaign
------------------------------------------------------------
In our Townhalls, we asked what the biggest problems of Muslims in Britain are. Now it is time to act.
This Ramadan, the Muslim Council of Britain is launching Hungry for Change - a nationwide campaign to mobilise British Muslims in grassroots civic action, strengthen our voice, and increase voter participation in the upcoming local elections to be held on 7th May 2026.
The rising threat of fragmented politics and hateful rhetoric against faith communities is a challenge we must unite against to ensure a fairer, inclusive and safer country for everyone to live in. We are living in a time where hate is spreading like wildfire and fear about migrants and faith communities is at an all time high, with an unprecedented rise in attacks against religious communities and the politicisation of people’s freedoms and rights to speech.
Political participation and civic action is a must for our community, which is why we want to mobilise British Muslims to get out to vote on issues that we care about as a community.Register as a Get Out to Vote Champion ([link removed]) today and make a change!

With the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the alarming rise of the far right — including the growing possibility of them gaining power — our community stands at a critical crossroads. Now more than ever, we must invest in strong, credible organisations that can defend, represent, and advocate for our communities.
This Ramadan, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) is inviting mosques to partner with us in this vital work.
Any mosque that undertakes a collection for the MCB during Ramadan will have its 2026 membership fees fully waived, offering a meaningful net saving for mosque finances, inshaAllah.
Funds raised will be used to strengthen Muslim communities across the UK by:
* Challenging and combating Islamophobia
* Politically empowering Muslim communities
* Training the next generation of Muslim youth leaders and media spokespeople
* Expanding and improving services for our member organisations
We invite mosques to take part in this Ramadan initiative by organising a collection in support of the MCB. Together, we can build the capacity our community needs — not just to respond to today’s challenges, but to shape a stronger future.
As a special thank you, participating mosques will benefit from waived membership fees and the knowledge that they are directly investing in the long-term resilience of our community.
