Hi John, it’s Julie Gonzales.
My roots in this country run deep. I often say we did not cross the border, the border crossed us. My family has lived in Colorado since before it was a state, and I grew up on a reservation where I witnessed firsthand the deep inequalities that exist beneath the myth of the American Dream.
Why do our homes lack basic plumbing, electricity, or safe heating? Or, why do we have less access to fresh foods, good jobs, and education but theirs do not?
No American should have to ask themselves these questions.
Back then, I did not yet have the language to describe the haves and have nots.
Today, I do. I also have the platform, the experience as an elected official, and the responsibility to confront those inequalities head-on.
As a State Senator, I established a statewide Office of New Americans, repealed the death penalty in Colorado, and secured over $100 million for clean-air investments.
We’ve proven that when we unite, we can accomplish what they claim can’t be done. Now it’s time to remove the roadblocks – starting with my corporate-backed opponent John Hickenlooper – who’s dead weight blocking progress in Congress.
