Not the comfortable silence of a peaceful morning. Not the reverent
hush of a solemn ceremony.

 

The suffocating, gut-wrenching silence of a nation watching its worst
nightmare unfold in real time.

 

A nervous energy pulses through every seat like a live wire ready to
explode. You can feel it in the air. Spectators grip the edges of
their seats with white knuckles. Some are praying silently. Others
stare in disbelief, unable to process what they're witnessing.

Americans — walks through the courtroom doors flanked by federal
marshals.

 

He takes his seat at the defendant's table. The same seat where common
criminals sit. The same chair where drug dealers and violent offenders
have been sentenced.

 

And now? The 45th and 47th President of the United States sits there,
facing charges brought by the very people he spent years fighting to
expose.
