Our polling shows that voters aren’t fooled: Majorities have deep concern with McConnell’s approach, suggesting that they see that Republicans aren’t taking this crisis seriously enough.

Tell Congress:

"Pass the HEROES Act and stop Mitch McConnell’s proposed cut to unemployment benefits! Then make sure that economic aid doesn’t stop until the pandemic is over, no matter which party wins the election!"

Coronavirus aid expired last week―meaning, among other things, that the eviction moratorium is over, and unemployment benefits are being cut by $600 per week. Democrats in the House passed the HEROES Act at the end of May, and Mitch McConnell sat on his hands until aid had already expired, hoping to jam through his plans to put corporations ahead of people.

Our polling shows that voters aren’t fooled: Majorities have deep concern with McConnell’s approach, suggesting that they see that Republicans aren’t taking this crisis seriously enough.

Tell Congress: The American people reject Mitch McConnell’s small potatoes approach to COVID relief! We need the provisions in the HEROES Act to be enacted and remain in place until the crisis passes, not some arbitrary date!

Our polling shows that voters support extending the federal moratorium on evictions, provide rental assistance, offer states and cities economic relief, continual stimulus throughout the pandemic, and full expanded unemployment benefits throughout the pandemic. See:

Graph showing voters favor Democratic proposals

No one knows when America will get the virus under control. But Mitch McConnell and Republicans have proven that they’re more than willing to exploit a crisis for political leverage―anyone who lived through 2009 and 2010 saw that first hand.

The media is treating McConnell’s plan as the starting point for negotiations, just because he has successfully ignored the Democratic proposal for months. But the truth is, voters side with Democrats in these negotiations―and members of Congress who ignore that do so at their peril.

We stand with Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who said:

“Yet again, Senate Republicans are seeking to deny the most basic protections that neighborhoods in my district so desperately need. Leader McConnell's reported priorities would fail to alleviate the pain of rising unemployment, a massive eviction and foreclosure wave, rising health care costs, and rising utility and water bills. Senate Republicans must stop bailing on Congress's responsibility to protect our communities from catastrophe. We need to fund a people's relief package immediately.”

ADD YOUR NAME: Tell Congress to reject the McConnell plan and pass the HEROES Act!

Thanks,

Sean McElwee
