Dear Friends,

I want to begin by sharing an update on my ongoing impeachment effort. Support continues to grow as we push for accountability. My articles of impeachment are now backed by 187 Members of Congress, reflecting the urgency and seriousness of the concerns surrounding Secretary Noem’s leadership and the actions of DHS under her watch.

While we remain focused on the work ahead, this is also a moment to celebrate excellence and unity. The Olympics kicked off today, and the Super Bowl is this weekend. I am wishing all of our athletes the best of luck. Bring home the gold, Team USA. We are cheering you on.

I joined Representative Lizzie Fletcher as an original co-sponsor of the Freeze ICE Act to stop the hiring of ICE agents.  Communities across the country have experienced ICE agents violating constitutional rights and causing harm without respect for human life.

Until there is real accountability, transparency, and meaningful procedural reform, a hiring freeze is a necessary step to protect the safety and civil liberties of the American people.

We must ensure our immigration enforcement agencies operate within the law and uphold the values our nation stands for.

A federal judge has blocked Secretary Noem’s attempt to deport more than 350,000 Haitians protected under Temporary Protected Status, but this fight is far from over. It is time for Congress to act.

That is why I signed onto Representative Ayanna Pressley’s discharge petition to force a vote on extending TPS for Haitians.

Deporting families back to a nation facing deep instability and crisis is inhumane and unacceptable. We must protect vulnerable communities and uphold our humanitarian commitments.

On February 2nd, I honored Black History Month and recognized the legacy of the Divine Nine on the House Floor.

For more than a century, these historically Black fraternities and sororities have produced generations of leaders and helped drive progress across every chapter of American history, from civil rights to innovation to culture. I’m proud to be an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho, which was founded in 1922.

As attacks on our history and our rights continue, we reaffirm that Black history is American history. The Divine Nine will always stand at the forefront of the fight for justice and opportunity.
