The Miracle behind Team USA
The inspirational story of the historic 1980 Winter Olympics gold medal game between the underdog Team USA and the favored Soviet Union – as told in the 2004 film Miracle – illustrates the power of coming together from different cultures and backgrounds. In this piece, Kelley Jiou, director of leadership programs at the Bush Institute, writes that the elements highlighted in the movie are the same ones that underpin a strong democracy. As the 2026 Winter Games begin, let’s embrace the power of diversity as we cheer on Team USA!
