Dear John,

January was a month full of chaos. The Trump Administration, now one year into their second term, has exacerbated the price of everyday needs, allowed healthcare costs to skyrocket, and is directing immigration officials to unleash violence on our streets. In both California and Washington, I’m working tirelessly to put a stop to this dangerous regime.

In California, I stood with my constituents to speak out against the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE and CBP in Minnesota. Just like you, I have seen the videos of immigration officers killing people in the street, and just like you, I am appalled.

When I returned to Washington, I fought for accountability from the Department of Homeland Security. They need to face consequences for their actions and reform their practices to conform to our laws. That’s why I voted no on the DHS funding bill and joined my colleagues calling for Secretary Noem’s impeachment.

In Congress, I introduced and sponsored several pieces of legislation to combat the Trump Administration’s recklessness, both big and small:

  • The Restarting Education After Disasters Act will ensure public schools receive vital emergency relief funding after a natural disaster strikes.
  • The Preemption of Real Property Discrimination Act will prohibit xenophobic state laws that discriminate against homeowners based on citizenship.
  • The Language Access For All Act will stop Trump’s rollback of translation services for non-English speakers across federal agencies.
  • Then, on the anniversary of the Monterey Park shooting, I reintroduced the Language Access to Gun Violence Prevention Strategies Act to expand language access for gun safety and strengthen red flag laws to prevent further tragedies in the future.

Last month also marked the first anniversary of the Eaton fire that blazed through our district, taking 19 lives and burning down over 9,000 buildings and homes.

To commemorate this devastating wildfire, I held a press conference with the California Congressional delegation to continue calling for federal disaster aid to help my constituents rebuild their lives. While we have made great progress in CA-28, we need Congressional Republicans and the Trump Administration to stop blocking more vital relief funding.

Finally, I signed a letter to the Trump Administration, demanding they restore the $10 billion in funding for childcare programs that the president held hostage from California and other blue states. Then I voted yes to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies, to ensure working families can afford their health insurance.

Although this past month was scary and uncertain, I haven’t stopped standing up against the Trump Administration. We have nine months until the midterm elections. Let’s fight back together.

Judy
