Dear Democrats,
The Democratic Party of New Mexico is committed to giving Democrats a stronger voice in shaping the future of our party and our country. That is why we submitted an application for New Mexico to be considered as a pre-window presidential nominating contest in 2028.
The Democratic National Committee sets the presidential primary calendar and determines when states are allowed to vote for our nominee. Traditionally, only four states are selected to vote before Super Tuesday, which will take place on March 7, 2028. The Democratic Party of New Mexico is seeking to be one of those early states.
Why does this matter? Because the states that vote first shape the race. History is clear that early contests determine which candidates are viable and rapidly narrow the field. In recent election cycles, including 2020, dozens of candidates entered the race, but within weeks of the early states voting, the field collapsed to just one or two serious contenders long before most states (including NM) had their say.
New Mexico should be a strong voice in picking who our national nominee is. Yet, under the current system, New Mexico’s late primary and limited delegate count mean the race is often decided before we vote. The Democratic Party of New Mexico is fighting to change that and to ensure our state’s voices are heard when it matters most.
New Mexico is a majority-minority border state with a diverse electorate that includes Hispanic and Latino voters, Native American communities, rural voters, working class families, and growing African American and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. These are exactly the coalitions Democrats must win in 2028.
Under Democratic leadership, our state has led the nation in family income growth, sharply reduced unemployment, and diversified our economy through clean energy, film, cannabis, and advanced manufacturing. New Mexico has also made national headlines by guaranteeing early childhood education, providing free college and vocational training, and protecting reproductive rights.
The proof is in the results – New Mexicans have done the work to keep our state blue. Democrats hold every statewide office, maintain majorities in the Legislature, and have an entirely Democratic congressional delegation. We are organized, energized, and ready to help choose a nominee who can defeat MAGA.
The 2028 presidential election will follow four years of a second Trump administration where our institutions and democracy will be incredibly damaged. Democrats must nominate a candidate who can meet the challenge, win the presidency, and lead with bold vision. The stakes could not be higher.
New Mexico has a proven track record of supporting those who deliver, not just pay lip service. We are fighting to make New Mexico an early primary state, but we need your help. We need to demonstrate to the DNC that we have an incredibly strong state party. Back us up by contributing $28 to make us an early primary state in 2028. [[link removed]]
