Friend,
No parent should have to stay up at night wondering how they’ll pay for college.
No student should have to drop out because they can’t afford to finish their degree.
That’s why I fight to invest in CUNY, and why I wrote a constitutional amendment [[link removed]] that would make New York the first state to guarantee a free, quality public higher education.
In one of the most inequitable cities in the country, public higher education is a powerful engine of social mobility.
If public higher education is the engine, funding is the fuel. Yet our public institutions have faced decades of cuts and are struggling more than ever. If you believe we need to fully fund CUNY, sign the petition to save CUNY by clicking here and join the fight to keep this engine of prosperity running.: [link removed]
I am proud to have been endorsed this week by PSC-CUNY, the faculty and staff union: [[link removed]] They said: “Andrew Goundardes has been one of the most important voices in Albany fighting for a fair budget for CUNY. What Andrew Goundardes has helped make happen in his first term as senator is a redrawing of the boundaries in naming what CUNY deserves and needs from NYS."
There’s no doubt we are in a moment of crisis.
In such moments, we have to invest in our institutions and in the next generation: the virologists, educators, first responders and leaders of the future. After all, it was during the Great Depression that we built Brooklyn College.
Together, we can work towards a future where CUNY is fully funded and no one in our city has to go into debt to get a higher education.
SIGN THE PETITION TO SAVE CUNY: [link removed]
We need the will in Albany to get it done. We need your help to make it happen.
In unity,
Andrew Gounardes
