Shah for Governor of Maine Logo

The reason I’m traveling across the state with a packed schedule of town hall events is that listening to those who voted for you as governor is the most important part of the job.

We know all too well how politicians try to avoid tough questions, but I’m not a politician — and while leading Mainers through the pandemic, I had to answer a lot of them every single day.

That’s why I recently sat down with the Washington Post to discuss how the pandemic shaped public health leaders as the primary source of information on how best to protect yourself and your family, and how they earned trust in some states but faced intense backlash in others.

Mainers put their trust in me to lead them through the pandemic because they knew I was doing everything I could to protect their health and safety and make the best decisions possible, given limited data at the time and lives on the line.

I often joke at the start of our town halls that easy questions are not allowed. But it’s not really a joke — I only want to answer tough questions, because it makes you a better leader.

And, equally important, acknowledging the unintended consequences of decisions we were not aware of at the time and using them to make better decisions in the future.

That’s what we should expect from all of our elected officials.

Photo of Nirav ShahHi. It’s Nirav Shah. You may remember me from my work as Maine's CDC Director, when I led our state through the uncertainty of the pandemic.

I saw firsthand how we can get through tough times together with empathy, resilience, and vision. And I’ll bring those same values with me to Augusta to tackle the big problems. But to do that, I’m relying on grassroots supporters like you to power our campaign so we can compete in this race.

The challenges our state faces require a leader with a unique set of skills and a clear vision for how Mainers can build a better life.

You’ve trusted me to deliver amid uncertainty before, and now I’m asking for your trust again.
